Abstract:
Provided is an optical film wherein wavelength shifts that are dependent on the viewing angle in a cholesteric liquid crystal layer are suppressed. Also provided is a method for manufacturing this optical film. This optical film is equipped with a cholesteric liquid crystal layer wherein first regions having a first film thickness and second regions having a second film thickness which is less than the first film thickness are arranged alternately with a period P of 0.5 μm to 2.0 μm in at least one direction in a plane, the difference between the first film thickness and the second film thickness is 0.2 μm to 1.0 μm, and the helical pitch of the cholesteric phase differs for the first region and the second region.
