[Abstract] [Problem] The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a liquid crystal composition including a polymerizable compound for manufacturing a PSA or PSVA liquid crystal display element, in which the polymerization rate of the polymerizable compound is adequately high, there are extremely few to no display defects caused by a change in pretilt angle, an adequate pretilt angle is achieved, and exceptional response performance is achieved; and a liquid crystal display element in which the liquid crystal composition is used. [Solution] The above problem is solved by a liquid crystal composition containing one or more types of polymerizable compounds represented by general formula (i). [Selected drawing] None
