Abstract:
A device for measuring the state of a phase change material (14) inside a vessel (16) is described, the device comprising at least one optical fiber (18) arranged inside the vessel (16), said optical fiber (18) comprising a cladding around a core, a light source (10) emitting light coupled into a first end of the at least one optical fiber (18) at a wavelength λ, optical measuring means (20) for measuring the amount of light at the output at a second end of the at least one optical fiber (18), wherein the at least one optical fiber (18) comprises a plurality of sections (12) with the cladding removed so that at these sections (12) the core is in direct contact with the phase change material (14) inside the vessel (16) and wherein the refractive index at the wavelength λ of the core is higher than that of the phase change material (14) in a first phase and lower in a second phase.
