Verfahren zum Betrieb eines Fahrerassistenzsystems für Kraftfahrzeuge, das einen Radarsensor aufweist und einen variablen Funktionsumfang hat, mit fortlaufender Nachkalibrierung des Radarsensors zur Kompensation von Justagefehlern bei laufendem Betrieb, gekennzeichnet durch die folgenden Schritte: schätzen des Justagefehlers aufgrund einer Messung über einen begrenzten ersten Betriebszeitraum (S3), einschränken des Funktionsumfangs des Fahrerassistenzsystems in Abhängigkeit von dem geschätzten Justagefehler (S5), fortsetzen der Messung während des Betriebs mit eingeschränktem Funktionsumfang innerhalb eines zweiten Betriebszeitraumes (42), zur Verbesserung der Schätzgenauigkeit des Justagefehlers (S7), und - erweitern des Funktionsumfangs nach Maßgabe der Verbesserung der Schätzgenauigkeit (S9).

A method for operating a driver assistance system for motor vehicles which comprises a radar sensor and has a variable functional scope, with continuous recalibration of the radar sensor in order to compensate for adjustment errors during ongoing operation, characterized by the following steps: estimating the adjustment error on the basis of a measurement over a limited first operating time period (S3), restricting the functional scope of the driver assistance system depending on the estimated adjustment error (S5), continuing the measurement during operation with a restricted functional scope within a second operating time period (42), for improving the estimation accuracy of the adjustment error (S7), and – extending the functional scope according to the improvement in the estimation accuracy (S9).

L'invention concerne un procédé pour faire fonctionner un système d'aide à la conduite pour véhicules automobiles, comprenant un capteur radar et présentant un ensemble de fonctions variable, le capteur de radar subissant un reétalonnage en continu pour compenser les erreurs d'ajustement en cours de fonctionnement. Le procédé selon l'invention est caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend les étapes consistant : à évaluer l'erreur d'ajustement en raison d'une mesure sur une première période de fonctionnement limitée (S3), à réduire l'ensemble de fonctions du système d'aide à la conduite en fonction de l'erreur d'ajustement évaluée (S5), à poursuivre la mesure pendant le fonctionnement avec l'ensemble de fonctions réduit pendant une deuxième période de fonctionnement (42), pour améliorer la précision d'évaluation de l'erreur d'ajustement (S7), et à élargir l'ensemble de fonctions selon la précision d'évaluation (S9).
