A method and a terminal for controlling transmission power. The method comprises: after it is determined that a human body is approaching a terminal, measuring the distance between the human body and the terminal by means of the radio frequency fingerprint recognition circuit, and controlling, according to the distance, the transmission power of the antenna of a radio frequency antenna unit. Accordingly, there is no need to add a separate SAR-lowering sensor module circuit to measure the parasitic capacitance induced when a human body is approaching the terminal, reducing the complexity of the hardware design of a radio frequency module. Moreover, regarding the prior art of controlling the transmission power of the antenna according to the change in the parasitic capacitance when the human body is approaching the terminal, there is problem of a large measurement error rate during adjustment of the transmission power due to the small magnitude of the change in the parasitic capacitance and a lot of interference sources. In comparison to this, according to the embodiments of the present invention, the transmission power is controlled according to the distance between the human body and the terminal, such that the transmission power can be controlled at a higher precision and accuracy.
