Abstract:
A highly plastic Zr-based bulk amorphous alloy containing N and no Be or Ni, having the formula expressed in atom percent: ZraCubAcBdXeZfNg, wherein A is one of Hf and Ti, B is an element from Group IIIA, X is at least one element, other than Ni, from Group VIII or from among rare earth elements, and Z is at least one element from Groups IB and VB, wherein a + b + c + d + e + f + g = 100%, 25 ≤ a ≤ 65, 15 ≤ b ≤ 65, 5 ≤ c ≤ 15, 0 ≤ d ≤ 15, 0 ≤ e ≤ 15, 0 ≤ f ≤ 10 and 0.05 ≤ g ≤ 0.5. The alloy is free of the metallic elements Be and Ni so as to increase the biocompatibility of the Zr-based alloy; the amorphous forming ability thereof is high, and a Zr-based bulk amorphous alloy obtained by a copper mould suction casting method has a critical size of not less than 2 mm; and, compared with an amorphous alloy free of nitrogen, the Vickers hardness of the alloy system is not less than 540 Hv.
