Abstract:
[Problem] The present invention relates to a cemented carbide and coated cemented carbide containing free carbon and addresses the problem of eliminating or reducing the demerits of free carbon even in a cemented carbide containing free carbon. Specifically, the present invention addresses the problem of providing a cemented carbide such that a decrease in strength can be suppressed by finely dispersing free carbon even when the free carbon is to be contained in the cemented carbide, and a beautiful mirror surface can be obtained as a mirror-finished surface because of the fine dispersion of free carbon in the cemented carbide. Also, the present invention addresses the problem of providing cutting tip with an exchangeable cutting edge and having high dimensional precision and a low-cost machined product of cemented carbide through the fine dispersion of free carbon. [Solution] The cemented carbide comprises tungsten carbide (WC), which has a carbon content in such a range that a liquid phase occurring under a high temperature does not contain any solid carbon, and cobalt (Co), and is characterized in that cavities caused by free carbon have a maximum diameter of 20 µm or less.
