The present invention pertains to a graphene carbon material having a BET specific surface area of 50 m2g-1 or more, a mesopore volume of 0.05 cm3g-1 or more, and a defect density of 2.5 × 1011 cm-2 or less. The C/O atomic ratio is, for example, within the range of 10-15000. The present invention pertains to a method for producing a defect-reduced graphene carbon material, the method comprising (1) a step for reducing the bulk density of oxidized graphene (e.g., to a bulk density of not less than 0.001 gcm-3 but less than 0.08 gcm-3), and (2) a step for subjecting the low-bulk-density oxidized graphene obtained in step (1) to a microwave irradiation process to obtain a graphene carbon material having a reduced defect density. The present invention provides a graphene carbon material having a relatively large mesopore volume, a relatively large specific surface area, and a reduced defect density, and provides a production method for the graphene carbon material.
