Abstract:
This liquid crystal display device 10 is provided with: a first substrate 11; a second substrate 12 that faces the first substrate 11; a liquid crystal layer 13 that is arranged between the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 12; and liquid crystal alignment films (a first alignment film 22 and a second alignment film 23) that are formed on the first substrate 11 and the second substrate 12, respectively. The first substrate 11 and the second substrate 12 respectively have an electrode 15 and an electrode 19 on the liquid crystal layer 13-side surfaces. At least one of the first alignment film 22 and the second alignment film 23 is a photo-alignment film. Each pixel has a plurality of alignment regions, in which the alignment directions of liquid crystal molecules are different from each other, within the pixel. The liquid crystal layer 13 has negative dielectric anisotropy, while having a thickness of 2.9 μm or less.
