Provided is a method for efficiently producing a high-boiling-point solvent solution of a methacrylic copolymer having a narrow molecular weight distribution. Provided is a production method for a polymer solution that includes: a methacrylic copolymer (A) having a weight-average molecular weight of at least 100,000, a weight-average molecular weight / number-average molecular weight ratio of 1.01 to 1.8, and a glass transition temperature of 40°C or less, and containing a methyl methacrylate unit and a (meth)acrylate alkyl ester unit having a C10-36 alkyl group; and a solvent (B) having a boiling point of 200°C or more. Said production method includes: (I) a step for polymerizing a monomer in a solvent (C) having a boiling point of less than 200°C to prepare the methacrylic copolymer (A); and (II) a step for mixing the solution including the methacrylic copolymer (A) obtained from step (I) and the solvent (C) with the solvent (B), and subsequently removing the solvent (C) such that the solvent (B) content in the polymer solution is 10 mass% or more.
