During the starting of an engine, a fuel injection amount is set to a jump-over injection amount (F2) when the engine speed acquired with each cycle is equal to or greater than a crossover determination value (R0) set to a value that is lower by a prescribed reference value than a lower limit value (R1) of a resonant speed range (Br) of a powertrain (PT), and the fuel injection amount is set to a start-out injection amount (F1) that is less than the jump-over injection amount (F2) when the engine speed is less than the crossover determination value (R0). Due to this feature, the engine speed is increased all at once to at least the resonant speed range after being brought near a prescribed range relative to the lower limit value of the resonant speed range of the powertrain in a process that increases the engine speed by executing a combustion cycle, and vibration occurring in the powertrain during the starting of the engine is minimized.
