The present invention provides a method of producing hydrogen, the method comprising the step of exposing a photocatalyst to visible and/or ultraviolet light in the presence of an organic substrate, wherein the photocatalyst has a semiconductor core having an oxide- and/or hydroxide-functionalised surface, thereby to generate hydrogen from the organic substrate, and the hydrogen is optionally collected. The photocatalyst semiconductor core may be CdS having oxide- and/or hydroxide-functionality at its surface (CdS|CdOx). The organic substrate typically contains a component having a molecular weight of 50 or more, such as 500 or more.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de production d'hydrogène, le procédé comprenant l'étape consistant l'exposition d'un photocatalyseur à une lumière visible et/ou ultraviolette en présence d'un substrat organique, le photocatalyseur ayant un noyau semi-conducteur ayant une surface fonctionnalisée oxyde et/ou hydroxyde, pour ainsi générer de l'hydrogène à partir du substrat organique, et l'hydrogène étant éventuellement collecté. Le noyau semi-conducteur de photocatalyseur peut être des CdS ayant une fonctionnalité oxyde et/ou hydroxyde à sa surface (CdS/cdoxe). Le substrat organique contient typiquement un composant ayant un poids moléculaire supérieur ou égal à 50, tel que 500 ou plus.
