Abstract:
(EN) A group of substantially nickel-free beta-titanium alloys have shape memory and super-elastic properties suitable for, e.g., medical device applications. In particular, the present disclosure provides a titanium-based group of alloys including 16-20 at.% of hafnium, zirconium or a mixture thereof, 8-17 at.% niobium, and 0.25-6 at.% tin. This alloy group exhibits recoverable strains of at least 3.5% after axial, bending or torsional deformation. In some instances, the alloys have a capability to recover of more than 5% deformation strain. Niobium and tin are provided in the alloy to control beta phase stability, which enhances the ability of the materials to exhibit shape memory or super-elastic properties at a desired application temperature (e.g., body temperature). Hafnium and/or zirconium may be interchangeably added to increase the radiopacity of the material, and also contribute to the superelasticity of the material.
(FR) Cette invention concerne un groupe d'alliages de bêta-titane sensiblement exempts de nickel, ayant une mémoire de forme et des propriétés super-élastiques appropriées pour, par exemple, des applications d'instrumentation médicale. En particulier, l'invention concerne un groupe d'alliages à base de titane comprenant 16 à 20 % at. de hafnium, de zirconium ou d'un mélange de ceux-ci, de 8 à 17 % at. de niobium et de 0,25 à 6 % at. d'étain. Ce groupe d'alliage présente des indices de déformation récupérable d'au moins 3,5 % après déformation axiale, en flexion ou en torsion. Selon certains cas, les alliages ont une capacité de récupération de la déformation de plus de 5 %. Le niobium et l'étain sont présents dans l'alliage pour réguler la stabilité de la phase bêta, ce qui améliore la capacité des matériaux à présenter des propriétés de mémoire de forme ou super-élastiques à une température d'application souhaitée (par exemple, la température corporelle).
