Abstract:
The present disclosure is generally directed to a detection system that utilizes two-dimensional image data to detect arrival of animal carcasses after striking wind turbines or other target structures. The system includes one or more camera devices with a field of view aligned with a predetermined section of ground adjacent a target structure. In response to detecting the arrival of an animal carcass, the carcass detection system sends one or more alert messages, e.g. via a network such as the Internet, to a remote computing device. The alert message can include a geographical location for each detected animal carcass, an arrival timestamp, and other metadata associated with the event, e.g., a confidence score, a wind turbine identifier (ID), and/or an animal species identifier. The alert message may be utilized by a user, e.g., a biologist, to easily locate and account for detected animal carcasses and avoid manual searches.
