Abstract:
A display panel and a display device. The display panel comprises a first substrate base (1), a liquid crystal layer (2), a waveguide layer (3), a grating layer, a first electrode (4), and a second electrode (5). The liquid crystal layer (2), the first electrode (4), and the second electrode (5) are located between the waveguide layer (3) and the first substrate base (1); the first electrode (4) and the second electrode (5) are constructed to adjust the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer (2) by changing a voltage applied to the first electrode (4) and the second electrode (5). An amount of coupled-out light from the waveguide layer (3) is determined on the basis of a difference between the refractive index of the waveguide layer (3) and the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer (2). The grating layer comprises a plurality of grating structures that are arranged at an interval. The grating structure in each pixel unit is constructed to make light having a particular wavelength be emitted from a particular direction and to control the diffraction efficiency of light having a particular color. Because there is no need to provide a polarizer and a color resist in a display panel, the transmittance of the display panel is improved. In addition, because there is no need to provide a polarizer in the display panel, there is no requirement on the overall phase delay amount of the liquid crystal layer, so that a liquid crystal cell may be set relatively thin, thereby improving response time of the liquid crystals.
