Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for determining combustion situations in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, wherein a combustion situation of a current combustion chamber charge of an nth cylinder in a working cycle is calculated from operating parameters of the internal combustion engine. The method is characterized in that a combustion torque (62) resulting from a combustion chamber charge of an nth cylinder is determined and that this combustion torque (62) is integrated across a crankshaft angle range. The combustion situation is determined as the crankshaft angle value for which the associated value of the integral reaches a predetermined fraction of the maximum value of the integral. The combustion torque (62) is determined by subtracting a compression torque (58) of the nth cylinder from a gas torque (52) of the nth cylinder, and the gas torque (52) of the nth cylinder is determined by subtracting a compression torque (58) of the next cylinder in the firing order from a gas torque (60) of the entire internal combustion engine (10).
