The method includes receiving (305) substantially-continuous heartbeat communications from a plurality of safety control devices (102) over a packet data network (112). The method includes monitoring (310) a status of each of the safety control devices. The method includes aggregating (315) the received statuses of the plurality of safety control devices. The method includes transmitting (320) the aggregated statuses to a cloud safety system (120). The method includes receiving (325) control commands from the cloud safety system. The method includes controlling (330) the safety control devices according to the received control commands.
