Abstract:
A CO2 laser (10) that generates laser-radiation in just one emission band of a CO2 gas-mixture has resonator mirrors (12,14) that form an unstable resonator and at least one spectrally-selective element (24,26) located on the optical axis (18) of the resonator. The at least one spectrally-selective element (24,26) may be in the form of one or more protruding or recessed surfaces. Spectral-selectivity is enhanced by forming a stable resonator along the optical axis (18) that includes the at least one spectrally-selective element (24,26). The CO2 laser (10) is tunable between emission bands by translating the at least one spectrally-selective element (24,26) along the optical axis(18).
