Title: DISCHARGE LAMP LIGHTING DEVICE
Abstract:
Provided is a technique allowing an extension of the lifespan of a discharge lamp to be achieved when the discharge lamp is lit at a lower power than the rated power. This discharge lamp lighting device has: an electricity supply unit for supplying power to a discharge lamp comprising a pair of electrodes disposed face-to-face inside a discharge container having a predetermined gas sealed therein; and a power control unit whereby a signal pertaining to a control power value is sent out to the electricity supply unit. The electricity supply unit has a configuration whereby power corresponding to the control power value is supplied to the discharge lamp. The power control unit has a control mode for repeating a cycle wherein the control power value is set to a first power value that is lower than the rated power of the discharge lamp, and then set to a second power value that is lower than the first power value. During the execution of the control mode, if the lamp voltage of the discharge lamp is greater than a predetermined voltage, the control power value is set to a third power value instead of the second power value, the third power value being greater than the second power value but lower than the first power value.
