Abstract

A method for evaluating Dry Eye Disease (DED) in a human or animal subject is provided. Thread thinning dynamics of a tear sample of the subject are determined using an acoustically-driven microfluidic extensional rheometry (ADMiER) instrument. At least one physical parameter value of the tear sample is calculated based at least in part on the determined thread thinning dynamics. DED is evaluated based at least in part on the at least one calculated physical parameter value of the tear sample. A device for evaluating Dry Eye Disease (DED) in a human or animal subject is also provided. The device includes an acoustically-driven microfluidic extensional rheometry (ADMiER) instrument and a processing device configured to evaluate DED based at least in part on the calculated at least one physical parameter value of the tear sample.

La présente invention concerne un procédé d’évaluation de la sécheresse oculaire (DED) chez un sujet humain ou animal. La dynamique de fluidification de fil d’un échantillon lacrymal du sujet est déterminée au moyen d’un instrument de rhéométrie par extension microfluidique à entraînement acoustique (ADMiER). Au moins une valeur de paramètre physique de l’échantillon lacrymal est calculée sur la base, au moins en partie, de la dynamique d’amincissement de fil déterminée. La DED est évaluée sur la base, au moins en partie, de ladite au moins une valeur de paramètre physique calculée de l’échantillon lacrymal. L’invention concerne en outre un dispositif d’évaluation de la sécheresse oculaire (DED) chez un sujet humain ou animal. Le dispositif comprend un instrument de rhéométrie d’extension microfluidique à entraînement acoustique (ADMiER) et un dispositif de traitement configuré pour évaluer la DED sur la base, au moins en partie, de l’au moins une valeur de paramètre physique calculée de l’échantillon lacrymal.
