Systems and methods of wireless communication in which wireless devices are adapted to implement adaptive waveform selection are disclosed, in particular for millimeter waves communications. For example, operation according to embodiments may provide for use of a waveform design that minimizes peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), such as single-carrier frequency division multiplexing (SC- FDM), as well as a waveform design that provides higher spectral efficiency, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), for scenarios that are not power-limited and the higher PAPR is acceptable. Adaptive waveform selection may be based implicitly on one or more parameters or may be based on explicit signaling. Said parameters are SNR, number of component carriers if carrier aggregation is present, and SISO/MIMO. In particular OFDM is preferred in case of MIMO, carrier aggregation or high SNR.

L'invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés de communication sans fil dans lesquels des dispositifs sans fil sont conçus pour mettre en œuvre une sélection de forme d'onde adaptative, en particulier pour des communications à ondes millimétriques. Par exemple, le fonctionnement selon des modes de réalisation peut prévoir l'utilisation d'une conception de forme d'onde qui réduit au minimum le rapport de puissance de crête à moyenne (PAPR), telle qu'un multiplexage par répartition en fréquence à porteuse unique (SC-FDM), ainsi qu'une conception de forme d'onde qui prévoit une efficacité spectrale accrue, telle qu'un multiplexage par répartition orthogonale de la fréquence (OFDM), pour des scénarios qui ne sont pas limités en puissance et où le PAPR supérieur est acceptable.
