Abstract: 
The invention relates to a device (Vor1, Vor2) and to a method for determining a distance (Ent(n)) of a first object (key) from a second object (Kfz), which distance is more current than an earlier distance (Ent(n1)), at a time (t(n)) that is more current than an earlier time (t(n1)), wherein the distance (Ent(n)) is determined from: the earlier distance (Ent(n1)) determined at the earlier time (t(n1)), the time difference (t(n))  (t(n1)) between the earlier time (t(n1)) and the more current time (t(n)), damping of the field intensity (RSSI_Model(n)) of a signal (Sig(n)), which is transmitted by one of the objects (key, Kfz) and received by the other of the objects (Kfz, key), over a distance (Ent(n)); (Ent(n1)) between the objects (key, Kfz), which damping is estimated for at least one distance (Ent(n)); (Ent(n1)), a signal intensity (RSSI(n)) of the signal (Sig(n)) received by one of the objects (Kfz, key) at the more current time (t(n)), which signal intensity is measured at the more current time (t(n)).
