(EN)Provided is steel for induction hardening that obtains excellent fatigue strength following induction hardening. This steel for induction hardening has a chemical composition which satisfies formula (1) through formula (3) and which includes, in mass%, 0.58–0.68% C, 0.70–1.40% Si, 0.20–1.40% Mn, 0.005–0.060% Al, 0.0020–0.0080% N, and 0.0005–0.005% Ca, with the remainder comprising Fe and impurities. The steel structure comprises ferrite and pearlite, the pearlite having a surface area of at least 85%. The ratio of the number of complex inclusions, which contain at least 2.0% SiO2 and at least 2.0% CaO, relative to the total number of complex inclusions and Al2O3 inclusions in the steel is at least 20%. (1): C + Si / 7 + Mn / 5 + Cr / 9 + Mo / 2.5 ≤ 1.05 ; (2): C + Si / 10 + Mn / 20 + Cr / 25 ≥ 0.70 ; (3): Cr / Si ≤ 0.20 .
