Abstract:
(EN) This application relates to copolymer compositions and copolymerization processes. The processes may use two different metallocene catalysts: one capable of producing high molecular weight copolymers; and one suitable for producing lower molecular weight copolymers having at least a portion of vinyl terminations, and the copolymer compositions produced thereby. Copolymer compositions may comprise (1) a first ethylene copolymer fraction having high molecular weight, exhibiting branching topology, and having relatively lower ethylene content (based on the weight of the first ethylene copolymer fraction); and (2) a second ethylene copolymer fraction having low molecular weight, exhibiting linear rheology, and having relatively higher ethylene content (based on the weight of the second ethylene copolymer fraction). It is believed that the unique combination of these properties provides a copolymer composition with advantageous viscosity modifying properties, such as an excellent combination of shear thinning and fuel economy, as well as high thickening efficiency.
(FR) La présente invention concerne des compositions de copolymère et des procédés de copolymérisation. Les procédés peuvent utiliser deux catalyseurs à métallocène différents : l’un pouvant produire des copolymères de poids moléculaire élevé ; et l’autre adapté pour produire des copolymères de poids moléculaire élevé comportant au moins une partie de terminaisons vinyliques, et les compositions de copolymères produites ainsi. Les compositions de copolymère peuvent comprendre (1) une première fraction de copolymère d’éthylène ayant un poids moléculaire élevé, présentant une topologie de ramification et ayant une teneur en éthylène relativement faible (sur la base du poids de la première fraction de copolymère d’éthylène) ; et (2) une deuxième fraction de copolymère d’éthylène ayant un poids moléculaire faible, présentant une rhéologie linéaire et ayant une teneur en éthylène relativement plus élevée (sur la base du poids de la deuxième fraction de copolymère d’éthylène). Il est estimé que la combinaison unique de ces propriétés produit une composition de copolymère ayant des propriétés avantageuses de modification de viscosité, telles qu’une excellente combinaison de fluidification par cisaillement et d’économie de carburant, ainsi qu’une efficacité d’épaississement élevée.
