Abstract:
Fuel reforming in a fuel reforming cylinder (2) is not executed if the gas temperature in a fuel reforming chamber (23), at the time when a piston (22) reaches the compression top dead center in the fuel reforming cylinder (2), is presumed to not reach a minimum gas temperature at which reforming is permissible, said minimum gas temperature being set on the basis of a minimum value for the temperature at which reforming reactions are possible. For example, fuel supply from an injector (25) is performed such that the equivalence ratio inside the fuel reforming chamber (23) is less than 1. Alternatively, fuel supply from the injector (25) is stopped. As a result, inadvertent supply of unreformed fuel from the fuel reforming cylinder (2) to an output cylinder (3) can be avoided and knocking in the output cylinder (3) can be avoided.
