The invention relates to a skeleton estimation method to extract skeleton information from an input 3D body mesh with the following steps: computing a geodesic map of closest distances from a centroid of the 3D body mesh to every vertex of the 3D body mesh; extracting key anchors from the geodesies map; segmenting the 3D body mesh into body parts by using the geodesies map and the anchors; computing circumferences along the body parts, wherein each circumference comprises a centroid; extracting body mean curves along the centroids of these circumferences; and extracting skeleton joints and connections between these joints. The invention is further related to a 3D body scanner operating with such a skeleton estimation method.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'estimation de squelette pour extraire des informations de squelette à partir d'un maillage corporel 3D d'entrée comprenant : le calcul d'une carte géodésique des distances les plus proches entre un point médian du maillage corporel 3D et chaque sommet du maillage corporel 3D; l'extraction de points d'ancrages clés à partir de la carte géodésique; la segmentation du maillage corporel 3D en parties du corps à l'aide de la carte géodésique et des points d'ancrages; le calcul de circonférences le long des parties du corps, chaque circonférence comprenant un point médian; l'extraction de courbes moyennes du corps le long des points médians desdites circonférences; et l'extraction d'articulations du squelette et des liaisons entre lesdites articulations. L'invention concerne en outre un scanneur corporel 3D exploité avec un ledit procédé d'estimation de squelette.
