Abstract:
(EN) The present invention provides a method for determining whether a patient suffers from COPD, said method comprising the step of: a. providing at a sample comprising, or consisting of, exhaled breath of said patient to an ionization chamber of a mass spectrometer; b. simultaneously determining the presence, absence or relative concentration of at least two metabolites in said sample using said mass spectrometer; c. determining if the presence, absence or relative concentration of said metabolites is indicative of COPD by comparing the determined presence, absence or relative concentration of at least two metabolites to predetermined reference values, characterized in that the metabolites are chosen from the group of metabolites of amino acids, metabolites emanating from of an oxidative or carbonyl stress process, or from combinations of said groups, optionally together with pyridine.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer si un patient souffre d'une broncho-pneumopathie chronique obstructive (BPCO), le procédé comportant les étapes consistant : a. à placer un échantillon comprenant ou constitué de l'air expiré dudit patient dans une chambre d'ionisation d'un spectromètre de masse ; b. à déterminer simultanément la présence, l'absence ou la concentration relative d'au moins deux métabolites dans ledit échantillon à l'aide dudit spectromètre de masse ; c. à déterminer si la présence, l'absence ou la concentration relative desdits métabolites est indicatrice d'une BPCO en comparant la présence, l'absence ou la concentration relative déterminée d'au moins deux métabolites à des valeurs de référence prédéterminées, les métabolites étant choisis dans le groupe des métabolites d'acides aminés, des métabolites issus d'un processus de stress oxydatif ou carbonyle, ou à partir de combinaisons desdits groupes, éventuellement avec de la pyridine.
