A disclosed embodiment provides a cleaning robot and a method for controlling the same, wherein when a cleaning device of the robot is separated from a driving device of the robot, the driving device moves after the cleaning device. In addition, the disclosed embodiment provides a cleaning robot and a method for controlling the same, the cleaning robot comprising a driving device which, when a cleaning device of the robot is separated from the driving device, stores a location where the cleaning device is separated and, moves to the stored location when the cleaning device is mounted in the driving device. A cleaning robot according to one exemplary embodiment comprises: a driving device including a mounting groove arranged to allow a cleaning device to be detachably installed therein; and the cleaning device arranged to be detachably installed in the mounting groove, wherein the driving device stores, when the cleaning device is separated from the mounting groove, a location of the driving device wherein the cleaning device is separated, and moves to the stored location when the cleaning device is mounted in the mounting groove.
