The present invention is a method for producing an article (1) by processing components (B…) including continuous sheets (3a, 5a) while the components (B…) are being conveyed on paths (R1a-R7a). Merging of the sheets (3a, 5a) is completed at a merging position (Sc) to form a composite sheet (1a), and the composite sheet (1a) is then cut to produce the article (1). In the case when a failure occurs at a given position (St) of the paths (R1a-R7a), conveyance on the paths (R1a-R7a) is brought to a halt. Some processing devices (77, 52…) located between said given position (St) and the merging position (Sc) are brought into a standby state. After the failure is corrected, conveyance is resumed while the devices are still in the standby state, and following the resumption of conveyance, the devices are restored to a processing state. When, of all the processing devices located upstream of the merging position (Sc), a processing device for which the greatest number of portions required for constructing the article (1) are located between said device and the merging position (Sc) is defined as the uppermost stream device (Mu), the restoration of said processing device is performed such that the portions which are subjected to resumed processing will have passed the merging position (Sc) by the time a portion (Bue) which was located uppermost stream in said uppermost stream device (Mu) during the suspension of conveyance reaches the merging position (Sc) after the resumption of conveyance.
