Title: POWER PLANT AND METHOD FOR CONVERTING THE ENERGY OF A MOVING MEDIUM
Abstract:
The invention relates to hydro and wind energy. Proposed is a power plant for converting the energy of a moving medium, such as run-of-river energy, ocean current energy, tidal energy and wind energy. The present power plant is a simple structure with low material requirements, consisting of a shaft with blades attached thereto, which consist of frames and shutters. The blades are mounted on one or several levels in a vertical or horizontal direction. The device can be used in a water or air environment with no change to the structure. Each blade is designed such that the surface area thereof can be adjusted to reduce acting loads, and is also capable of extending telescopically and increasing the arm of a lever which generates a turning force. The shutters are mounted in the frames of the blades such that, when in operation, they assume a position in which the area of the torque-generating blades is maximal on one side of an axis of rotation and minimal on the other side, thus resulting in high torque. Also claimed is a power plant operating method, characterized by the direct pressure effect of a moving medium on the blades of a device, in which a shaft and blades, consisting of frames and shutters, are used. Torque is generated by a direct pressure effect on a moment arm which generates torque, rather than by a medium flowing over the blades. The power plant is universal and works in a vertical, horizontal or inclined position irrespective of wind or water direction. The device is easy to install and is even air-droppable.
