Abstract:
(EN) A balloon dilator device, comprising an annularly shaped, cylindrical type structure having walls that are expandable from a radially collapsed state to a radially expanded state by inflation of a balloon inserted within the annular structure. Once the walls have been expanded, they remain in the expanded state even if the balloon is deflated, because the radially expanded state is a state of minimum mechanical potential energy, and in order to return to the collapsed state, the structure would have to pass a state of higher potential energy. The device walls require sufficient stiffness in their longitudinal direction to enable the device to be pushed into a minimally invasive incision made in the subject. This device stiffness can be achieved either by its mechanical material properties, or by its substantially closed wall structure, or by use of a stiff protector sheath used to protect the walls during insertion.
(FR) La présente invention décrit un dispositif dilatateur à ballonnet, comprenant une structure de forme annulaire, de type cylindrique présentant des parois qui sont extensibles à partir d’un état radialement replié vers un état radialement expansé par gonflage d’un ballonnet inséré à l’intérieur de la structure annulaire. Une fois que les parois ont été expansées, elles demeurent sous l’état expansé même si le ballonnet est dégonflé, du fait que l’état radialement expansé est un état d’énergie potentielle mécanique minimale, et afin de revenir à l’état replié, la structure aurait à traverser un état d’énergie potentielle supérieure. Les parois du dispositif nécessitent une rigidité suffisante dans leur sens longitudinal afin de permettre au dispositif d’être poussé dans une incision minimalement invasive effectuée chez le sujet. Cette rigidité de dispositif peut être atteinte soit par ses propriétés mécaniques de matériel, soit par sa structure de paroi sensiblement fermée, soit par l’utilisation d’une gaine de protecteur rigide utilisée pour protéger les parois durant l’insertion.
