Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for diagnosing a nitrogen oxide sensor (10) arranged in an internal combustion engine, which sensor has a first pump electrode (24) assigned to a first pump cavity (20), a second pump electrode (34) assigned to a second pump cavity (30), and a measuring electrode (44) assigned to a measuring cavity (40). The method comprises discharging oxygen from the first pump cavity (20) by means of the first pump electrode (24), introducing oxygen into the second pump cavity (30) by means of the second pump electrode (34), streaming the oxygen introduced into the second pump cavity (30) at least partly into the measuring cavity (40), acquiring a diagnostic measured value in the measuring cavity (40) by means of the measuring electrode (44) and establishing that the nitrogen oxide sensor (10) is defective if the acquired diagnostic measured value deviates from a predetermined reference value by a predetermined threshold value.
