Title: AUTOMATIC REMOVAL OF PHYSIOLOGICAL ACCUMULATIONS FROM NUCLEAR MEDICINE IMAGE, AND AUTOMATIC SEGMENTATION OF CT IMAGE
Abstract:
This invention automatically removes physiological accumulations from nuclear medicine images. Further, the invention performs automatic segmentation of a CT image and, as an example of a favorable application thereof, and be used to automatically remove physiological accumulations from a nuclear medicine image. One favorable embodiment involves creating a histogram of pixel values on the basis of a CT image and determining boundaries between air regions and fat regions, boundaries between fat regions and soft tissue regions, and boundaries between soft tissue regions and bone regions. On the basis of these results, the head region and abdominal region in the CT image are automatically identified. Furthermore, on the basis of said results, the head region and the bladder region are identified in the nuclear medicine image, high physiological accumulation regions are specified, and a nuclear medical image is displayed with these portions masked.
