WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:

1. A device configured to selectively modify: (i) a communication path coupled to a sink device and a plurality of source devices and (ii) a communication message from the sink device or a source device among the plurality of source devices.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the selective modification of the communication path is based on a decision to modify or block a communication message to or from the sink device or at least one of the plurality of source devices.

3. The device of claim 2, wherein the decision to modify or block the

communication message is based on a determination that at least one of the plurality of source devices or a communication message therefrom is defective or incompatible with the sink device or at least one of the plurality of source devices.

4. The device of claim 2, wherein the decision to modify or block the

communication message is based on a determination to overcome a limitation of a communication protocol.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a High Definition

Multimedia Interface (HDMI) switch.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein the communication path comprises a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) communication path.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein the configuration to selectively modify comprises a configuration to selectively couple the device instead of the plurality of source devices to the sink device.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the configuration to selectively modify comprises a configuration to selectively decouple one or more of the plurality of source devices from the sink device.

9. The device of claim 1, wherein the configuration to selectively modify comprises: (i) a configuration to selectively couple the device instead of the plurality of source devices to the sink device and (ii) a configuration to selectively decouple one or more of at least one of the plurality of source devices from the sink device.

10. The device of claim 1, the plurality of source devices separated into a first cluster of source devices and a second cluster of source devices, wherein the configuration to selectively modify comprises a configuration to selectively couple at least one of the first cluster of source devices and the second cluster of source devices to the sink device.

A compatibility device configured to (i) detect an incompatibility between a plurality of communication devices including a plurality of source devices that send source communication messages and a sink device that sends sink communication messages and (ii) block, modify or replace a sink or source message to or from a device among the plurality of communication devices causing the incompatibility.

12. The compatibility device of claim 1 1, further configured to (iii) decouple the device causing the incompatibility from the other communication devices.

13. The compatibility device of claim 1 1, further configured to (iii) decouple the plurality of source devices from the sink device while the plurality of source devices and the sink device are coupled to the compatibility device.

14. The compatibility device of claim 1 1, further configured to (iii) couple and decouple the plurality of source devices to the compatibility device as a first cluster of source devices and a second cluster of source devices.

15. The compatibility device of claim 1 1, further configured to (iii) simultaneously couple to the plurality of source devices and the sink device while the plurality of source devices are also coupled to the sink device.

16. A method, comprising:

monitoring a plurality of source devices configured to be coupled to and decoupled from a sink device;

determining that at least one of the plurality of source devices is incompatible; and blocking a message from the at least one incompatible source device while not blocking a compatible message from at least one of the plurality of source devices.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

modifying or replacing, by a compatibility proxy, the blocked message with a proxy message.

18. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

decoupling the at least one incompatible source device from the at least one compatible source device and the sink device.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

coupling and decoupling the at least one incompatible source device and the at least one compatible source device collectively from the sink device.

20. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

coupling and decoupling the plurality of source devices to the sink device as a first cluster of source devices and a second cluster of source devices.
