Title: OPTICAL MODULATION DEVICE
Abstract:
The present invention improves the optical properties and stability, and decreases the size and cost, of an integrated optical modulation device that subjects the two beams of linearly polarized light emitted from each of a plurality of optical modulation elements to polarization synthesis, and outputs the same. The optical modulation device is equipped with: two optical modulation elements (120a and the like) which each emit two output light beams; four lenses (140a and the like) for receiving the four output light beams emitted by the optical modulation elements; a polarization rotator element (108) for rotating the polarization of one of the two output light beams emitted from each of the two optical modulation elements; and two polarization synthesis elements (110a, 110b) for synthesizing the two output light beams emitted from each of the two optical modulation elements into one beam, and outputting the synthesized beams. The optical modulation device is further configured in a manner such that the light emitted from each of the four lenses is directly incident on the polarization rotator element and/or on the two polarization synthesis elements, without passing through an optical path shift prism.
