Abstract:
Provided is a projection optical system (100) that projects a magnified image onto a projection plane (1) from a diagonal position, including a transmissive optical system (110) and a transmissive element (140). The transmissive optical system (110) includes a lens element and magnifies an image displayed by an image display element (130). The transmissive element (140) is arranged on an optical path between the transmissive optical system (110) and the projection plane (1), and transmits an image beam without obstructing the same. When a reference intersection point is defined as a point on the incidence surface and/or on the emission surface of the transmissive element (140) through which a principal beam exiting from the center of the image and passing through the center of the pupil of the transmissive optical system (110) passes, and a reference vertical nodal line is defined as a line passing through the reference intersection point and parallel to a direction corresponding to the positive direction of the Y-axis, a curvature along one surface of the transmissive element (140) relative to a direction perpendicular to the reference vertical nodal line is greater than a curvature relative to a direction parallel to the reference vertical nodal line, and a principal beam incident on the reference vertical nodal line includes a beam parallel to a normal line to one surface at the reference intersection point.
