An image processing device according to one of the exemplary aspects of the present invention includes: a scale space generation means for generating the scaled samples from a given input region of interest; feature extraction means for extracting features from the scale samples; a likelihood estimation means for deriving an estimated probability distribution of the scaled samples by maximizing the likelihood of a given scaled sample and the parameters of the distribution; a probability distribution learning means for updating the model parameters given the correct distribution of the scaled samples; a template generation means to combine the previous estimates of the object features into a single template which represents the object appearance; an outlier rejection means to remove samples which have a probability below the threshold; and a feature matching means for obtaining the similarity between a given template and a scaled sample and selecting the sample with the maximum similarity as the final output.

Un dispositif de traitement d'images selon l'un des aspects à titre d'exemple de la présente invention comprend : un moyen de génération d'espace de mise à l'échelle permettant de générer les échantillons mis à l'échelle à partir d'une région d'intérêt d'entrée donnée ; un moyen d'extraction de traits caractéristiques permettant d'extraire les traits caractéristiques des échantillons mis à l'échelle ; un moyen d'estimation de probabilité permettant de dériver une distribution de probabilité estimée des échantillons mis à l'échelle par la maximisation de la probabilité d'un échantillon mis à l'échelle donné et des paramètres de la distribution ; un moyen d'apprentissage de la distribution de probabilité permettant de mettre à jour les paramètres de modèle étant donné la bonne distribution des échantillons mis à l'échelle ; un moyen de génération de modèle permettant de combiner les estimations précédentes des traits caractéristiques d'objet en un modèle unique qui représente l'aspect de l'objet ; un moyen de rejet de valeurs aberrantes permettant d'éliminer les échantillons qui ont une probabilité inférieure au seuil ; et un moyen de mise en correspondance des traits caractéristiques permettant d'obtenir la similarité entre un modèle donné et un échantillon mis à l'échelle et de sélectionner l'échantillon ayant la similarité maximale en tant que sortie finale.
