Rare-earth elements are commonly added or crystal grain size is commonly reduced in order to enhance ductility or forming properties in a magnesium alloy. However, conventionally added elements inhibit grain boundary sliding activity for complementing plastic deformation. There is therefore a need to find an added element which has the effect of promoting grain boundary sliding not only at the conventional deformation speed but also in a higher speed region while maintaining a microstructure for activating non-basal-plane dislocation movement. The present invention provides an Mg-based alloy extended material including 0.25 mass% to 9 mass% Bi, the remainder comprising Mg and unavoidable components, the Mg-based alloy extended material having excellent room-temperature ductility and being characterized in that the average crystal grain size of the Mg parent phase thereof after solutionizing treatment and hot plastic working after casting is 20 µm or less.
