Title: METHOD FOR DETECTING slow-VISA
Abstract:
Provided is a novel means for detecting a slow-VISA in a clinical sample. A method for detecting a slow-VISA, characterized by comprising subjecting a sample to steps (a) and (b) as mentioned below or steps (a), (b) and (c) as mentioned below and then identifying a sample detected in step (b) or steps (b) and (c) as a slow-VISA: (a) a step of seeding each sample in a BHI liquid culture medium, then culturing the liquid culture medium at 30 ± 2ºC for 18 ± 2 hours and then culturing the liquid culture medium at 37 ± 2ºC for 18 ± 2 hours; (b) a step of seeding the liquid culture medium obtained in step (a) in a mupirocin-containing or mupirocin-free BHI culture medium, then culturing the culture medium for 48 ± 2 hours, then measuring the MIC of VCM, and then detecting a sample in which the MIC of VCM in the mupirocin-containing culture medium is larger than that in the mupirocin-free culture medium and the MIC of VCM in the mupirocin-containing culture medium is larger than 6 μg/mL; and (c) a step of seeding the sample proliferated in step (a) in a BHI liquid culture medium, then culturing the liquid culture medium at 37 ± 2ºC for 48 ± 2 hours, then culturing the liquid culture medium in a mupirocin-free culture medium, then measuring the MIC of VCM, and then detecting a sample in which the MIC of VCM is smaller than that in the mupirocin-containing culture medium in step (b) and which forms colonies.
