Abstract:
The invention relates to an activation method for a noble metal-containing coating of an oxidation catalyst exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (14) through which exhaust gas can flow for a diesel internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, wherein the oxidation catalyst exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (14) has rare earth metals. A temperature (T4) of the exhaust gas upstream of the oxidation catalyst exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (14) is ascertained. For temperatures lower than a specified maximum temperature value of maximally approximately 370 °C, a fat activation process of the oxidation catalyst exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (14) is carried out by reducing the set combustion air/fuel ratio to a value which is less than lambda equaling one in time intervals of more than approximately 30 minutes for a duration of at least approximately two seconds, and for temperatures of the exhaust gas higher than the specified maximum temperature value, a reduction of the combustion air/fuel ratio below a value of lambda equaling one is prevented.
