Abstract:
(EN) The Adaptable Pulse Position Modulation (APPM) optical communication system and process facilitate wireless communications through turbid mediums including, but not limited to, smoke, airborne dust, mist, fog, clouds, water, seawater and water-to-air (air-to-water) interfaces by controlling the signal gain at the optical detector and controlling of the signal encoding to allow high data rate operation when the signal to noise ratio is high. The system also supports signal encoding redundancy to maintain good connectivity at the cost of the communication channel data rate as the signal to noise degrades.
(FR) L'invention concerne un système et un procédé de télécommunication par fibre optique à modulation adaptative d'impulsions en position (APPM) qui facilite les télécommunications sans fil à travers des milieux troubles comprenant, entre autres, la fumée, les particules en suspension dans l'air, la brume, le brouillard, les nuages, l'eau, l'eau de mer et les interfaces eau-air (air-eau), en commandant le gain de signal au niveau du détecteur optique et en commandant le codage de signal pour permettre une opération haut débit lorsque le rapport signal-bruit est élevé. Le système prend également en charge une redondance de codage de signal pour maintenir une bonne connectivité au niveau du coût du débit du canal de communication lorsque le rapport signal-bruit se dégrade.
