Abstract:
(EN) An ion conductive intercalation membrane is useful to separate anode and cathode compartments in an electrochemical cell and provide ion transport between the anode and cathode compartments. The intercalation membrane does not receive and release electrons during operation of the electrochemical cell. An electric potential and current source is connected to an anode and a cathode disposed in respective anode and cathode compartments to cause oxidation and reduction reactions to occur at the anode and cathode, to cause electrons to flow through an external circuit coupled to the anode and cathode, and to cause ions to transport through the intercalation membrane to maintain charge neutrality within the electrochemical cell. The electrochemical cell operates at a current density greater than 25 mA/cm2 across the intercalation membrane.
(FR) La présente invention concerne une membrane intercalaire conductrice d’ions qui est utile pour séparer des compartiments d’anode et de cathode dans une cellule électrochimique et permet le transport d’ions entre les compartiments d’anode et de cathode. La membrane intercalaire ne reçoit pas et ne libère pas d’électrons pendant le fonctionnement de la cellule électrochimique. Une source de potentiel et de courant électrique est connectée à une anode et une cathode disposées dans des compartiments d’anode et de cathode respectifs de façon à amener des réactions d’oxydation et de réduction à se produire au niveau de l’anode de la cathode, de façon à amener des électrons à circuler à travers un circuit externe couplé à l’anode et à la cathode, et pour amener les ions à être transportés à travers la membrane intercalaire afin de maintenir la neutralité de charge dans la cellule électrochimique. La cellule électrochimique fonctionne à une densité de courant supérieure à 25 mA/cm2 à travers la membrane intercalaire.
