Abstract:
Devices and methods are provided herein for the transmission of power in motor vehicles. Power is transmitted in a smoother and more efficient manner by splitting torque into two or more torque paths. A continuously variable transmission is provided with a ball variator assembly having a plurality of tiltable balls supported in a carrier assembly. In some embodiments, the carrier assembly is configured to be rotatable and selectively grounded. A carrier skew shift actuator mechanism is configured to provide a means for adjusting the relative position of a first carrier member to a second carrier member of the carrier assembly to thereby adjust the operation of the continuously variable transmission.
