Abstract:
(EN) A system and method for reducing carbon dioxide in an electrochemical cell comprising a first cell compartment, a second cell compartment, and a membrane positioned between the first cell compartment and the second cell compartment is disclosed. The method may include introducing a feed containing a carbon dioxide gas and a feed of catholyte at a cathode positioned in the first cell compartment, in which the cathode contains a gas diffusion electrode comprising a carbon cloth or graphitized carbon weave and wherein the carbon dioxide gas is directed through carbon fibers of the carbon cloth or graphitized carbon weave. The method may further include introducing a feed of anolyte at an anode positioned in the second cell compartment and applying an electrical potential between the anode and the cathode of the electrochemical cell to thereby reduce the carbon dioxide to a reduction product.
(FR) Cette invention concerne un système et un procédé de réduction du dioxyde de carbone dans une cellule électrochimique comprenant un premier compartiment de cellule, un second compartiment de cellule, et une membrane située entre lesdits premier et second compartiments de cellule. Le procédé peut comprendre l'introduction d'une charge contenant du dioxyde de carbone gazeux et d'une charge de catholyte sur une cathode située dans le premier compartiment de cellule, où la cathode contient une électrode à diffusion gazeuse comprenant un tissu de carbone ou un tissage de carbone graphitisé et le dioxyde de carbone gazeux est dirigé à travers les fibres de carbone dudit tissu de carbone ou tissage de carbone graphitisé. Le procédé peut en outre comprendre l'introduction d'une charge d'anolyte sur une anode située dans le second compartiment de cellule et l'application d'un potentiel électrique entre l'anode et la cathode de la cellule électrochimique pour réduire ainsi le dioxyde de carbone à un produit de réduction.
