Claims

1. A container comprising a cup body with an opening and a lid (2) sealed tightly over the opening of the cup body by a double seam, wherein,

said cup body is made of plastic and has a bottom wall, a side wall (1), an edge (11) which defines the opening, and a flange (12) which is connected to the edge (11) of the opening and extends outwards and downwards from the edge (11) of the opening,

said lid (2) is provided with a panel (24), a lid wall (21) extending upwards from the panel (24), a curl portion (22) extending outwards and downwards from the lid wall (21), and a hook portion (23) extending inwards and upwards from the curl portion (22), and

the lid wall (21), the edge (11) of the cup body, the hook portion (23) of the lid (2), the flange (12) of the cup body and the curl portion (22) of the lid (2) form the double seam; in the double seam, the hook portion (23) is compressed between the edge (11) and the flange (12), and the hook portion (23) and the lid wall (21) form an over-hook angle (Θ) between 20° and 40°.

2. The container according to claim 1, wherein the cup body is made of a thermoplastic polymer, preferably polypropylene, and the lid is made of metal, preferably aluminum alloy.

3. The container according to one of claims 1 to 2, wherein the over-hook angle (Θ) is about 25° to about 35°, preferably about 23° to about 34°, and more preferably about 30°.

4. The container according one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the thickness of the side wall (1) is greater than the thickness of the lid (2).

5. A method for manufacturing a container for containing a food product, the method comprising the steps of:

a) providing a cup body with an opening, wherein said cup body is made of plastic and has a bottom wall, a side wall (1), an edge (11) which defines the opening, and an outwardly extending flange (12) which is connected to the edge (11);

b) providing a lid (2) to be sealed tightly over the opening of the cup body, wherein said lid

(2) is provided with a panel (24), a lid wall (21) extending upwards from the panel (24), and a peripheral curl extending outwards from the lid wall (21);

c) applying the lid (2) to the flange (12) of cup body; and

d) forming a double seam between the flange (12) of the cup body and the lid (2) by means of a chuck and at least one roller,

wherein during the step d), the flange (12) of the cup body is forced to bend downwards, and the peripheral curl of the lid (2) is also forced to bend downwards to form a curl portion (22) covering the flange (12) of the cup body, with the distal portion of the peripheral curl further extending inwards and upwards from the curl portion (22), so as to form a hook portion (23) which bites the flange (12) of the cup body; and

wherein in the double seam, the hook portion (23) is compressed between said edge (11) and said flange (12), and the hook portion (23) and the lid wall (21) form an over-hook angle (Θ) between 20° and 40°.

6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the cup body is made of a thermoplastic polymer, preferably polypropylene, and the lid is made of metal, preferably aluminum alloy.

7. The method according to claim 5 or 6, wherein the angle of over-hook (Θ) is about 25° to about 35°, preferably about 23° to about 34°, and more preferably about 30°.

8. The method according to one of claims 5 to 7, further comprising a step of dosing the food product into the cup body between the steps b) and c).
