Abstract:
(EN) Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) has enabled telecommunication service providers to fully exploit the transmission capacity of optical fibers. State of the art systems in long-haul networks now have aggregated capacities of terabits per second. Moreover, by providing multiple independent multi-gigabit channels, WDM technologies offer service providers with a straight forward way to build networks and expand networks to support multiple clients with different requirements. In order to reduce costs, enhance network flexibility, reduce spares, and provide re-configurability many service providers have migrated away from fixed wavelength transmitters, receivers, and transceivers, to wavelength tunable transmitters, receivers, and transceivers as well as wavelength dependent add-drop multiplexer, space switches etc. However, to meet the competing demands for improved performance, increased integration, reduced footprint, reduced power consumption, increased flexibility, re-configurability, and lower cost it is desirable to exploit / adopt monolithic optical circuit technologies, hybrid optoelectronic integration, and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS).
(FR) Selon l'invention, le multiplexage par répartition en longueur d'onde (WDM) a permis à des fournisseurs de services de télécommunication d'exploiter pleinement la capacité de transmission de fibres optiques. Des systèmes de l'état de l'art dans des réseaux longue distance ont maintenant des capacités agrégées de térabits par seconde. De plus, en fournissant de multiples canaux multi-gigabit indépendants, des technologies de WDM offrent aux fournisseurs de services un moyen direct pour construire des réseaux et étendre les réseaux pour prendre en charge de multiples clients ayant différentes exigences. Pour réduire les coûts, améliorer la flexibilité de réseau, réduire les pièces de rechange, et fournir une capacité de reconfiguration, de nombreux fournisseurs de service ont migré à partir d'émetteurs, de récepteurs et d'émetteurs-récepteurs à longueur d'onde fixe, vers des émetteurs, des récepteurs et des émetteurs-récepteurs à longueur d'onde accordable, de même qu'un multiplexeur d'insertion-extraction dépendant de la longueur d'onde, des commutateurs spatiaux, etc. Toutefois, pour satisfaire les demandes concurrentes pour de meilleures performances, une intégration accrue, un encombrement réduit, une consommation d'énergie réduite, une flexibilité accrue, une capacité de reconfiguration, et un coût inférieur, il est souhaitable d'exploiter/adopter des technologies de circuits optiques monolithiques, d'intégration optoélectronique hybride, et des systèmes micro-électromécaniques (MEMS).
