Abstract:
(EN) A method for the fail-safe termination of in vivo drug delivery from an implantable drug delivery system, the method comprising: providing an implantable drug delivery system comprising: a housing having a reservoir for containing a drug, and a port for dispensing the drug to a patient; and an emergency deactivation unit disposed between the reservoir and the port, the emergency deactivation unit comprising a composite structure comprising a biocompatible ferromagnetic mesh open to fluid flow and a hydrophobic meltable material, the hydrophobic meltable material comprising at least one hole therein for enabling a fluid to pass through the hydrophobic meltable material; implanting the implantable drug delivery system within a patient; enabling the drug to flow from the reservoir, through the at least one hole in the hydrophobic meltable material and out the port; and when drug flow is to be terminated, applying a magnetic field to the composite structure, such that a current is induced in the ferromagnetic mesh which heats the ferromagnetic mesh and melts the hydrophobic meltable material, thereby closing the at least one hole in the hydrophobic meltable material and blocking drug delivery to the patient.
(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé pour la terminaison à sécurité intégrée d'administration de médicament in vivo à partir d'un système d'administration de médicament implantable, lequel procédé consistant en : la disposition d'un système d'administration de médicament implantable comprenant : un boîtier ayant un réservoir pour un médicament, et un orifice pour administrer le médicament à un patient ; et une unité de désactivation d'urgence disposée entre le réservoir et l'orifice, l'unité de désactivation d'urgence comprenant une structure composite comprenant un treillis ferromagnétique biocompatible ouvert vis-à-vis d'un écoulement de fluide et un matériau fusible hydrophobe, le matériau fusible hydrophobe comprenant au moins un trou à l'intérieur de ce dernier pour permettre à un fluide de traverser le matériau fusible hydrophobe ; l'implantation du système d'administration de médicament implantable à l'intérieur d'un patient ; le fait de permettre au médicament de s'écouler à partir du réservoir, à travers le ou les trous dans le matériau fusible hydrophobe et hors de l'orifice ; et, quand l'écoulement de médicament est terminé, l'application d'un champ magnétique à la structure composite, de telle sorte qu'un courant est induit dans le treillis ferromagnétique, ce dernier chauffant le treillis ferromagnétique et faisant fondre le matériau fusible hydrophobe, de façon à fermer le ou les trous dans le matériau fusible hydrophobe et bouchant l'administration de médicament au patient.
