The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for supporting narrow band communications for a UE and base station. In one embodiment, a UE in step one receives a first signaling, and in step two searches for a second signaling on M search resources, the second signaling comprising scheduling information of target data, and the target data being distributed in G time units in the time domain. The first signaling indicates a first time unit group, the time units occupied by the M search resources all belong to first time unit group, the second signaling is a physical layer signaling, and the search resources are distributed in N time units in the time domain. The duration of the time unit is 1 millisecond. The present invention can reduce energy loss from blind decoding of NB-IoT physical layer control signaling, can flexibly schedule in a time domain a time unit for NB-IoT communications, and reduce a load size of a control signaling for scheduling a time unit.
