Abstract:
A display panel and manufacturing method thereof, belonging to the technical field of semi-reflecting semi-transmitting liquid crystal displays, and capable of resolving the problem of light leakage in a dark state and complex manufacturing processes of a semi-reflecting semi-transmitting liquid crystal display. Each pixel of the display panel comprises a transmitting region (91) and reflecting region (92). The display panel comprises a first polarizing member (11), a first substrate (19), a first orientation layer (13), a liquid crystal layer (5), a second orientation layer (23), a second substrate (29), and a second polarizing member (21). A reflecting layer (921) is provided between the second orientation layer (23) and the second polarizing member (21) of the reflecting region (92). The liquid crystal layer (5) of the reflecting region (92) comprises a nematic liquid crystal (51) and a polymer network (52). The liquid crystal layer (5) of the transmitting region (91) comprises a liquid crystal mixture, the liquid crystal mixture comprising a nematic liquid crystal (51) and a polymerizable monomer (521). The polymer network (52) of the reflecting region (92) is formed by polymerizing a polymerizable monomer (5211) in the liquid crystal mixture. When there is no electric field, the direction of arrangement of the nematic liquid crystal (51) in the reflecting region (92) is different to the orientation of the first orientation layer (13), and the direction of arrangement of the nematic liquid crystal (51) in the transmitting region (91) is the same as the orientation of the first orientation layer (13).
