Abstract:
(EN) The present disclosure provides optical fiber preforms formed from core canes having large core-clad ratio, intermediate core-cladding assemblies, and methods for making the preforms and core cladding assemblies. The preforms are made with capped core canes. The capping material has a coefficient of thermal expansion less than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the core cane and more closely matched to or lower than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the surrounding cladding monolith in a cane-in-soot process. Presence of the cap reduces stresses that arise from differential thermal expansion of the core cane and cladding materials and leads to preforms having low defect concentration and low probability of failure during subsequent thermal processing steps.
(FR) La présente invention concerne des préformes de fibre optique formées à partir des tiges centrales, présentant rapport noyau-gainage élevé, des ensembles noyau-gainage intermédiaires et des procédés de fabrication des préformes et des ensembles de noyau-gainage. Les préformes sont réalisées à l'aide de tiges centrales recouvertes. Le matériau de recouvrement présente un coefficient de dilatation thermique inférieur au coefficient de dilatation thermique de la tige centrale et plus étroitement adapté au coefficient de dilatation thermique du monolithe de gainage environnant ou inférieur à celui-ci dans un procédé de cane-dans-suie. La présence du recouvrement réduit les contraintes qui proviennent de la dilatation thermique différentielle de la tige centrale et des matériaux de gainage et conduit à des préformes présentant une faible concentration en défauts et une faible probabilité de défaillance au cours des étapes de traitement thermique subséquentes.
